Bare in Mind was created with the view that all children deserve the opportunity to learn about their emotional wellbeing, and be given the freedom and tools to talk about the way they feel.
Our workshops provide an honest, thoughtful, sensitive and (hopefully) fun insight into various areas of mental health. We aim to play a part in educating and forming young people into emotionally resilient adults through our openness to talk about mental health in a way that does not discriminate, exclude or shame.
Combining current mental illness diagnostic criteria with real-world examples and personal stories of mental illness, our goal is to provide young people with the knowledge they need to better understand themselves and the world they live in.
With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, and a BA Hons degree in Psychosocial Studies, I've had unique opportunities to work in a supportive role and as a practitioner with a variety of different clients groups and settings including:
I've always worked with a sensitive and compassionate ethos, and largely within psychologically informed environments. Always working in a person-centred way and at whatever stage of recovery a person is at has enabled me to gain insight knowledge from people experiencing mental distress at all levels.
As well as working in mental health, I can also claim to be an "expert by experience".
At 26 I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety, however I believe these issues have been with me since my teenage years. It wasn't always obvious to me (even if it was to those around me!) and I sometimes struggled to explain the way I felt. I wasn't sure what was "normal" for me, and what was actually a mental health problem that could be treated.
It is for this reason that I set up Bare in Mind, to help our young people acknowledge what "normal" is for them as individuals, and to know how, when and who to ask for help.
